LOVELAND, Colo. — An organizer for President Obama was arrested for unlawful sexual activity for allegedly groping a 21-year-old woman on Tuesday, according to Loveland police.
The staff member, Luke Buchanan, 24, of Washington, DC, was going door-to-door on behalf of Obama when he knocked on the woman’s door.
After briefly discussing her voting status, Buchanan asked if he could give her a campaign sticker.
While putting the sticker on her shirt, Buchanan allegedly grabbed the young woman’s breasts.
Following the allegations, Buchanan was arrested and booked into the Larimer County Jail.
While initial reports identified Buchanan as a member of the Obama campaign, and his own LinkedIn profile says he is a field organizer for Organizing for America, he was in fact working for the Colorado Democratic Party.
The Obama campaign’s ground game in Colorado is run through a combined effort by Organizing for America and the Colorado Democratic Party, likely leading to Buchanan’s confusion as to who he worked for.
“We have a zero tolerance policy for inappropriate behavior. As soon as we learned about this incident, we took immediate action, and the person in question has been terminated,” Colorado Democratic Party Communications Director Matt Inzeo told CBS4.
The arrest comes on the heels of another high profile Democrat having legal issues.
CBS4 reported last week that the Jefferson County Democrats had awarded Estelle Carson their “Democrat of the Year” award while she was under investigation for stealing from a 71-year-old woman with cerebral palsy to pay for her own cable and phone bill. Carson was convicted of identity theft and theft from an at-risk person. The Jefferson County Democrats eventually stripped Carson of her award and donated $600 to charity after conservative blog Colorado Peak Politics reported Carson had donated the same amount to the county party since 2010.
