DENVER – Some 45 percent of Democrats hold either a “somewhat favorable” or “very favorable” impression of socialism, according to a recent poll released by Rasmussen Reports. The same proportion of Democrats, 45 percent, held an unfavorable view in the survey.
The even split among Democrats stands in stark contrast to the poll results among non-Democrats.
Just four percent of Republicans viewed socialism favorably, for example, while 92 percent held a “somewhat unfavorable” or “very unfavorable” opinion.
Among those not identified as Democrats or Republicans, 20 percent had a favorable impression of socialism while 68 percent held an unfavorable view.
Overall, 67 percent – or two thirds of all respondents – had an unfavorable impression of socialism, while just 24 percent held favorable views. Another 9 percent were unsure.
A definition of the term “socialism” was not included in the survey questions.
The poll of 1000 likely voters was conducted November 25, and had a + / – 3 percent margin of error.
