Nearly all of Republican ranking members have previously served on their assigned committees either in the Senate or in the House

DENVER– Senate Minority Leader Bill Cadman (R-Colorado Springs) has assigned Republicans to committees like… well General George Patton regimenting the troops for war. Cadman made every effort to match the Republican Senators’ professional and political experience to the committee battle stations.

“With the complex issues the 69th General Assembly will face in 2013, it is critical that the legislative committees have experienced, knowledgeable members representing the voice of the Senate Republicans,” said Cadman.

The Minority Leader talked individually with Republican Senators to match their experience and preference to make the best committee assignments. They chose from committees listed under three meeting time slots to ensure that there were no scheduling conflicts.

Nearly all of Republican ranking members have previously served on their assigned committees either in the Senate or, as in the case of Senator-elect David Balmer, in the House.

Balmer, an attorney from Centennial, is named ranking member of the Senate Local Government Committee and the Business, Labor and Technology Committee.

Freshmen senators were matched with their professional and personal experiences.

Senator-elect Larry Crowder (R-Alamosa), a rancher and Army veteran who served as the Veteran’s Service Officer in Rio Grande County, is assigned to the Senate State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee.

Senator-elect Owen Hill (R-Colorado Springs), a financial investment officer for Compassion International, will serve on the Senate Finance Committee.

Last month, the Senate Republican Caucus re-elected their previous leadership team including Senate Minority Leader Cadman, Assistant Minority Leader Mark Scheffel (R-Parker), Republican Caucus Chair Scott Renfroe (R-Greeley) and Senate Minority Whip Kevin Grantham (R-Canon City).
